Unexpected nowFrog
Occasional. Never better than a coin toss here in any week of the year.

- A green or bronze frog with a bright green upper lip and two ridges running down the back from the eyes.
- Male & female
- Males have a yellow throat and eardrums larger than the eye.
- Voice
- A single explosive 'gunk', exactly like plucking a loose banjo string, sometimes repeated.
- Diet
- Insects, spiders, snails, small fish.
- Habitat
- Pond and stream edges in eastern North America; introduced in a few spots in Washington.
- Nesting
- Egg masses in shallow water in early summer.
- Size
- 2–4 in long, 1–3 oz: a stick of butter with legs and opinions.
Not a native of the Northwest; established populations here are few and local. A 'Green Frog' detection is more likely a bullfrog or a stray noise.
